ACHALA WALI

Achala Wali (b. Benares, India)

Lives and works in Trumansburg, NY


Born in Benares, India, Achala came to the United States at the age of five with her parents. With them she lived in many different places around the United States. A graduate of Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts, Achala continued developing her work, living in Paris and New York City, eventually moving to Cleveland, OH in 1989 and establishing a formal studio there in 2007. She formed strong partnerships with area artists and the community, exhibiting extensively in the Cleveland area. In 2019 she moved back to New York state, establishing residence in Trumansburg, NY. In 2021, she was selected as one of six regional artists for a new exhibition series, the “Central New York Artist Initiative” at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York which will premiere in June 2022.
